Late-November weather changes day to day, which makes family plans tricky. Sejong, Korea's new administrative city in the middle of the country, solves that: the National Children's Museum and the Sejong National Arboretum greenhouses are both indoors. Here's how to book, where to eat a packed lunch and an easy half-day plan.

Quick facts

  • From Seoul: KTX to Osong Station, then a BRT bus into Sejong; or about 2 hours by car
  • Key step: museum tickets open 30 days ahead and weekend sessions go fast
  • Avoid Mondays: the museum is closed

1. National Children's Museum: touch everything

A museum just for kids inside Sejong's National Museum Complex. Instead of looking at glass cases, children fix cars, play with water and electricity and try jobs, with zones divided by age from babies to primary school.

  • Where: National Museum Complex, Sejong-dong, Sejong (Korean: 세종특별자치시 세종동 국립박물관단지)
  • Sessions: 09:30–13:00 and 14:00–17:30
  • Closed: Mondays, January 1, Lunar New Year and Chuseok days
  • Fees: permanent exhibition free; special exhibition 2,000 won
  • Parking: first hour free, 3 more hours discounted with a special exhibition ticket

Booking is everything. The National Museum Complex reservation site opens at midnight 30 days before your visit, up to 7 tickets per person. Weekend sessions often sell out right away. Collect your tickets within an hour of the session start or they're cancelled automatically, and two no-shows block booking for 90 days.

2. Sejong National Arboretum: warm greenhouses in winter

Even when it's cold outside, the Four Seasons Greenhouse feels like another world. The tropical greenhouse has waterfalls, streams and dinosaur displays that kids love, and the Mediterranean greenhouse hosts a Henri Matisse exhibition, "Colorful Garden," until December 31.

  • Tickets: adults 5,000 won, teens 4,000 won, children 3,000 won
  • Hours and closed days (winter):
  • Strollers and nursing room:

The outdoor gardens are big but quiet in late November, so focus on the greenhouses.

Lunch: the museum picnic zone

The Children's Museum has a picnic zone where you can eat your own food, with a water dispenser and microwave, plus a café and nursing room. Perfect for warming baby food. For restaurants, head into central Sejong; high chairs and floor seating vary.

A half-day to full-day plan

  1. 09:30 Children's Museum, session 1 (arrive by 9:00 to collect tickets)
  2. Lunch Picnic zone or a nearby restaurant
  3. Afternoon Arboretum greenhouses, 1–2 hours

Going in session 2? Reviews suggest arriving before 3 PM; the time inside goes quickly.

Tips for foreign travelers

  • The reservation site is in Korean and may need Korean phone verification. If it doesn't work, ask your hotel to help or call the museum.
  • Pack lunch, water and spare clothes for the water play zone.
  • Use KakaoMap or Naver Map for the BRT buses; T-money works on them.

Summary

Sejong is a weather-proof family day: hands-on museum in the morning, warm greenhouses in the afternoon. Get the booking and you're halfway there.
