Tired of the same date spots? Try Gunsan, a port city on Korea's west coast. Its old town keeps buildings from the early 1900s that look like a film set, there's a retro railway village, and the day ends with a glowing bridge across a lake. Late November is quieter, perfect for walking slowly together.
Quick facts
- From Seoul: express bus to Gunsan, about 2.5–3 hours
- Sunset in late November: around 17:20
- Avoid Mondays: the museums close
Day: the old town and a 4-museum pass
Gunsan's old town still has buildings from the Japanese colonial era (1910–1945), when this was a major rice-export port. Walking here feels like time travel. Buy the combined ticket: it covers the Modern History Museum, Modern Art Museum, Modern Architecture Museum and Jinpo Maritime Theme Park.
- Combined ticket: adults 3,000 won
- Winter hours (Nov–Feb): 09:00–17:00, last entry 16:30
- Closed: Mondays and January 1
Museums close at 5 PM in winter, so go in before 3 PM.
Afternoon: Gyeongam-dong Railway Village and bakeries
Low houses line both sides of an old railway track in this retro alley, and many couples rent old-style Korean school uniforms for photos. Gunsan is also famous for bread: Leesungdang, known for its red bean buns, is a near-mandatory stop. Popular breads sell out, so go in the morning if you can.
Sunset (optional): Seonyudo Island
With time to spare, drive across the Saemangeum seawall to Seonyudo, an island linked by bridges. On the West Sea the sun sets right into the water. There's also a zipline, the Seonyu Sky Sunline. The drive from the old town takes a while.
Night: Mulbit Bridge at Eunpa Lake Park
End the day at Eunpa Lake Park, where the Mulbit Bridge crosses the lake and glows with lights after dark. Watch the colors reflect on the water from the bridge, then walk the lakeside path after dinner.
- Where: Eunpa Lake Park, Miryong-dong, Gunsan (Korean: 은파호수공원)
- Admission: free
- Music fountain: often off in winter
- Bridge lighting hours:
Food
Gunsan is known for jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), seafood and its bakeries. Restaurant details change often. Popular spots have long weekend waits and many don't take bookings, so arrive at opening time.
Route at a glance

- 13:00 Lunch → bakery
- 14:30 Gyeongam-dong Railway Village
- 16:00 Seonyudo for sunset (optional)
