The classic Suncheon Bay view is the sun setting over an S-shaped channel through golden reeds. To see it from Yongsan Observatory, timing is everything, so this date is planned backwards from sunset.

November sunset timing

  • Sunset: about 17:29 on Nov 10, 17:20 on Nov 25 (calculated; check on the day)
  • Wetland ticket sales end at 17:00, so enter by about 4 PM
  • Yongsan Observatory is about 1.5 km from the trailhead, 25–30 minutes on a boardwalk with some uphill

1. Suncheon Bay Wetland

The reeds grow taller than you, so the boardwalk feels private even on busy days.

  • November hours: 08:00–18:00 · closed the last Monday of each month
  • Ticket: wetland + National Garden, adults 15,000 won (2026) · parking 3,000 won
  • Photo spots: the curve in the middle of the boardwalk, and silhouettes against the sunset from the observatory

2. Daytime: National Garden & SkyCube

Spend the early afternoon walking the vast Suncheon Bay National Garden, then ride the SkyCube, small driverless pods, to the wetland. A pod for two is a date in itself (fares and last ride).

3. Dinner: kkomak (cockles)

Suncheon is famous for cockle set meals and cockle bibimbap. Namnyeokdeul Bapsang, a Korean set-meal restaurant in town, is said to charge about 23,000 won per person. Call ahead on weekends.

Route at a glance

  1. 13:00 National Garden walk
  2. 15:00 SkyCube (or drive) to the wetland
  3. 15:30–16:00 Enter the wetland, reed boardwalks
  4. 16:30 Reach Yongsan Observatory and wait
  5. ~17:20 Sunset; head down before 18:00
  6. 18:30 Cockle dinner, then a café

Tips for foreign travelers

  • Bring a warm jacket, comfortable sneakers, a power bank and a light for the walk down.
  • The purple sky 10–20 minutes after sunset is beautiful, but respect the closing time.
  • Staying over? Wake early for misty morning reeds.

Summary

Garden walk by day, wetland entry before 4 PM, sunset at about 5:20, cockles for dinner. Get the timing right and few November dates in Korea can match it.
