Pohang Date: Space Walk Sunset, Yeongildae Night View & Gwamegi Season

Prices, opening hours and transit times change often. We gathered this information on Nov 1, 2026. Please confirm on the official site or Naver Map before you go.

Pohang, on Korea's east coast, packs more into a date than you'd expect: a walkable sculpture shaped like a roller coaster, a pavilion standing in the sea that glows at night, and in November and December, gwamegi season. Here is a weekend day from a gwamegi lunch to a late-night observatory, and almost everything is free.

Quick facts

  • From Seoul: KTX from Seoul Station to Pohang, about 2.5 hours
  • Sunset: in the 5 PM hour in mid-November
  • No cable car: the once-planned Yeongil Bay sea cable car was cancelled, so don't go looking for it

1. Guryongpo gwamegi: free tastings on weekends

Gwamegi is half-dried Pacific saury (or herring), a winter delicacy wrapped in seaweed with green onion and garlic. On November and December weekend afternoons, the Gwamegi Culture Center runs free tastings, a low-risk way to try it first.

2. Space Walk: time it for sunset

A walkable steel sculpture on a hill in Hwanho Park that looks like a roller coaster. You climb real stairs with Yeongil Bay below, and at night LED lights make it glow. In winter it closes early, at 18:00 on weekends, which lines up almost exactly with sunset. Go up around 16:30 to catch both the sunset and the lights.

3. Yeongildae sea pavilion at night

A traditional-style pavilion built out over the water that becomes a night-view spot when lit. It is close to Hwanho Park, and the beach promenade is lined with places for dinner.

A free observatory that started night opening in September 2026: a perfect last stop. Last entry is 21:45, so take your time over dinner.

  • Wear gloves and non-slip flat shoes for the Space Walk stairs, plus a windproof jacket.
  • Stay near Yeongildae Beach to walk to the night views.

Summary

Start with gwamegi, then sunset on the Space Walk, the glowing pavilion and a late-night observatory. A full, mostly free Pohang date.
