Traveling Korea with little ones? Gyeongju is one of the easiest cities to do with kids — flat paths, giant grassy tombs that look like hills, and a world-class museum that's completely free.
November is a great time to go: foliage in the region is forecast to peak in early to mid-November 2026. Here are 5 spots picked with parents in mind — stroller access, restrooms, nursing rooms, and what to do if it rains.
1. Daereungwon & Cheomseongdae — an easy stroller walk
Start here. The paths are flat and wide, so pushing a stroller is easy. Kids usually ask, "Are those hills?" — they're actually the tombs of Silla kings, which tends to get a big reaction.
- Admission: Daereungwon and Cheomseongdae are free. Inside Cheonmachong tomb: adults ₩3,000, children ₩1,000
- Hours: Daereungwon 09:00–22:00 / Cheomseongdae until 21:00 from November
- Best for: toddlers and preschoolers
- Tip: there's little shade or seating, so bring water and snacks
2. Gyeongju National Museum + Children's Museum — free and excellent
If you only pick one place with kids, make it this one. General admission is free, and the Children's Museum is free too — but you need an online reservation. Each session is limited to 60 people, so book ahead for weekends.
- Hours: 10:00–18:00 / Children's Museum runs 8 sessions a day
- Closure: the Children's Museum is temporarily closed on Monday, November 2
- Facilities: nursing room (with water dispenser and sink) and stroller parking
- Parking: free for the first 20 minutes, then paid
- Booking: gyeongju.museum.go.kr / +82-54-740-7591
It's indoors, so it's also your best plan B for rain or cold.
3. Tongiljeon Ginkgo Road — perfect for nap time
Kid fell asleep in the car? Drive slowly down this road. Ginkgo trees line both sides, so it feels like passing through a golden tunnel.
If they're awake, hop out and let them throw armfuls of leaves. Kids love it.
- Location: entrance road to Tongiljeon, east of Namsan
- Heads up: fallen ginkgo nuts smell. Use shoes you don't mind getting dirty.
4. Ungok Seowon — run around under a 370-year-old tree
One enormous ginkgo, said to be over 370 years old, turns the whole courtyard yellow. It's far quieter than downtown, so kids can run around freely.
- Address: 79-13 Saryang-gil, Gangdong-myeon, Gyeongju (경북 경주시 강동면 사랴길 79-13)
- Admission & parking: free (about 80 spaces)
- Peak: early November
- Note: hard to reach by bus — take a taxi or drive
5. Gyeongju Donggungwon — indoor botanical garden & bird park
A good backup when the weather is unsure. There's a botanical garden and a separate bird park.
- Botanical garden: adults ₩5,000, elementary students ₩3,000, preschoolers free
- Bird park (separate ticket): adults ₩20,000, 24 months–elementary ₩15,000, under 24 months free
- Hours: 09:30–19:00 (last ticket 18:00)
- Parking: free, 219 spaces
The botanical garden ticket does not include the bird park — don't get confused at the ticket office.
An easy one-day route for families
With kids, three places a day is plenty.
- Morning: Gyeongju National Museum + Children's Museum (match your booked session)
- Lunch: something light — gimbap or noodles
- Nap time: drive the Tongiljeon ginkgo road
- Afternoon: Daereungwon and Cheomseongdae walk
- Staying overnight? Visit Ungok Seowon the next morning.
Kid-friendly food
Gyori Gimbap (main branch) — mild egg-filled gimbap that most kids happily eat. Opens early, so grab some before you head out.
- 2 Tapri 3-gil, Gyeongju (경북 경주시 탑리3길 2)
- 2 rolls ₩11,000 / noodles ₩6,500, closed Wednesdays
Tips for families visiting from abroad
- Big temperature swings: pack a light down jacket for the kids.
- Rain knocks the leaves down fast — check the forecast before you go.
- Weekend parking near Daereungwon and Hwangnidan-gil is tough. Go early.
- Car seats: taxis usually don't have them. If you need one, consider a rental car that offers child seats.
- Maps: use Naver Map or KakaoMap instead of Google Maps for accurate directions.
