The sea in November is more romantic than you might think: no summer crowds, clear air and a deep blue sky. This Gangneung route takes you from coffee by the sea to a dusk beach walk, then a lit bridge and a pine forest at night.
Quick facts
- From Seoul: KTX from Seoul or Cheongnyangni Station to Gangneung, about 2 hours
- Sunset: a little after 5 PM in November
- Stay: one night near Gyeongpo or Gangmun makes the night walk easy
1. Anmok Coffee Street
A row of cafes along the beach, and the classic start to a Gangneung date. Grab a window seat and just watch the waves; cafes with a second floor or rooftop have the best views. Window seats fill fast on weekend afternoons, so arrive before 3 PM.
- Where: along Anmok Beach, Gangneung (Korean: 안목해변)
- Cafe picks:
- Parking: public lot fees
2. Gangmun Beach at dusk
Gangmun Beach has photo spots like a picture-frame bench and a ring-shaped sculpture, ideal for couple photos. Behind the beach, a flat pine-forest path runs toward Gyeongpo Beach, great for walking hand in hand. The East Sea faces east, so the sun does not set over the water, but the sky still glows pink and red.
- Where: Gangmun Beach, near Gyeongpo Lake and Gyeongpo Beach (Korean: 강문해변)
- Parking: Gangmun Public Lot 1, about 500–600 won per 30 minutes
3. Sotdae Bridge at night: toss a coin, make a wish
This bridge crosses where Gangmuncheon stream meets the sea, and its lights are lovely after dark. Near the middle is a "Jindobaegi" wishing spot, a traditional village guardian pole, where you toss a coin and make a wish. The night path is well kept, and the best moment is about 30 minutes after sunset, when the sky and the lights glow together.
4. Haslla Gangneung Immersive Art Show
A night show that fills the Chodang-dong pine forest with media art and lights, based on the Gyeongpo legend of the "five moons." It is near the Heo Gyun and Heo Nanseolheon Memorial Park, not far from Gangmun Beach. It opened in spring 2026; November–December dates, hours, prices and booking on the Gangneung tourism site.
Where to eat: Chodang soft tofu
Chodang-dong is Gangneung's tofu village, famous for Chodang sundubu (silky soft tofu), and it is next to the art show site. Most places don't need a reservation, but it varies.
